At UTMB Health, we strive to meet the healthcare needs of underserved populations, particularly within the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) and the Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD). We are currently seeking a dedicated Vocational Nurse (LVN) for a casual appointment at the O'Daniel Unit.
JOB SUMMARY:
The Vocational Nurse provides essential nursing care to an assigned group of patients and performs nursing procedures in accordance with their education and demonstrated competencies.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Deliver direct nursing care to assigned patients.
- Engage in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care.
- Conduct admission, discharge, and transfer procedures effectively.
- Review and, with supervision, modify the nursing plan of care as needed.
- Accurately observe and document signs, symptoms, and behaviors, including physiological status of patients, while proposing revisions to interventions and desired outcomes.
- Administer designated nursing interventions in alignment with the established medical plan of care.
- Alert appropriate nursing and medical staff to any changes in patient status; recognize patient care priorities and potential crises.
- Follow physician's orders to deliver comprehensive nursing care.
- Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality at all times.
- Safely administer medications and treatments.
- Execute written physician's orders for assigned patients.
- Prepare equipment and supplies for various diagnostic or treatment procedures; assist in performing or supporting such procedures.
- Adhere to infection control measures, isolation protocols, and aseptic techniques in patient care delivery.
- Document nursing care comprehensively in all assigned patient records.
- Comply with internal controls and reporting structures.
- Perform additional duties as required.
EQUIPMENT:
Utilize standard patient care supplies, equipment, and mechanical devices.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This role is situated within a correctional facility, requiring security clearance and pre-employment drug testing.
