POSITION SUMMARY
We are on the lookout for an exceptional Chief Operating Officer to spearhead strategic and operational initiatives within this dynamic design practice. This pivotal role merges strategic business planning with hands-on operational management, focusing on resource planning, client relations, project delivery systems, and financial performance. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) industry, particularly within architecture or design, equipping them to address the unique operational challenges of a creative environment while promoting efficiency, profitability, and growth.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Resource Planning & Project Staffing:
- Oversee resource allocation and staffing across multiple concurrent projects.
- Monitor and optimize team capacity, utilization rates, and workload distribution.
- Forecast resource requirements based on project pipeline and anticipated growth.
- Identify hiring needs and collaborate on recruitment strategies.
- Develop initiatives to enhance team productivity while ensuring work-life balance.
Operational Management:
- Manage day-to-day operations across all functional areas.
- Establish, refine, and implement operational processes and systems to boost efficiency.
- Act as the escalation point for operational challenges and client concerns.
- Guarantee quality standards and firm values are upheld across all projects.
- Champion continuous improvement initiatives throughout the organization.
Client Management:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for client relationships, supporting Project Managers and principals.
- Address client concerns and manage expectations at the highest level.
- Build and sustain strong relationships with key clients and referral sources.
- Participate in client meetings and presentations as necessary.
Project Financial Management:
- Establish project budgets and fee structures in collaboration with project teams.
- Monitor project profitability, billing, and financial performance throughout all phases.
- Implement systems to track project costs, budgets, and financial metrics.
- Proactively identify and resolve budget overruns or profitability challenges.
