The Bureau of Child Care is committed to ensuring that childcare services across New York City adhere to the New York City Health Code and New York State Social Service regulations. Our mission is to routinely monitor childcare programs, ensuring the health and safety of children while fostering access to high-quality environments that enhance early childhood development.
Position Summary: As a Child Care Inspector, you will conduct essential inspections of childcare facilities throughout New York City, ensuring compliance with existing laws and regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform regular inspections of childcare facilities, including visual assessments and document reviews.
- Utilize a handheld tablet to prepare comprehensive inspection reports.
- Advise operators on regulatory compliance and corrective measures related to food handling, sanitation, and pest control.
- Issue summonses and close facilities if immediate health risks are identified.
- Evaluate permit applications to establish new childcare programs.
- Participate in data collection and reporting initiatives for operational and research purposes.
- Represent the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene at administrative hearings.
- Travel throughout the city using public transportation or personal vehicle while managing inspection equipment weighing approximately 15 pounds.
