About Us
Ch’anik’na is a dedicated childcare facility operated by the Seldovia Village Tribe (SVT) that has been serving the community for over 25 years. We are committed to providing quality childcare services to both Alaska Native and non-Alaska Native families in Seldovia.
At Ch’anik’na, we strive to create a vibrant and inclusive learning environment that integrates cultural heritage and modern education. Our curriculum reflects the rich traditions of the Unangax, Yupik, Sugpiaq, and Athabascan peoples, promoting an appreciation for diverse cultures among the children in our care.
Ch’anik’na, meaning 'children’s house' in Dena’ina, is dedicated to nurturing the growth and development of each child, helping them to explore their identities and the world around them. We believe in fostering an environment that encourages curiosity, creativity, and cultural understanding.
Our guiding principles for children are:
“We care by using kind words and listening ears, sharing, trading, and taking turns.”
“We are safe by using walking feet, inside voices, and following directions.”
