As a Civil Engineer Intern (CEI) under the mentorship of the Deputy Director of Facility Engineering (DDFE) for the Staten Island Ferry (SIF), you will work collaboratively with various internal teams to advance the SIF engineering program. Your responsibilities will include creating detailed drawings using AutoCAD, executing moderate-level civil engineering tasks, and assisting in civil engineering research, investigations, and studies. Additionally, you may engage in the development of contract documents, including plans, specifications, and cost estimates, while also participating in field reviews and meetings. Fieldwork will be necessary to assess site conditions and improve design plans and specifications.
In this role, you will perform significant marine project work on diverse waterfront facilities and structures, including ferry landings, piers, bulkheads, seawalls, and other coastal infrastructures. You will provide engineering expertise in preliminary and final design, new construction, reconstruction, rehabilitation, and repair of infrastructure. Your contributions will span various phases of engineering design and construction—from field investigations and preliminary designs to regulatory approvals and construction administration.
EXAMPLES OF TYPICAL TASKS: Assist the SIF DDFE with complex waterfront civil marine structural engineering projects throughout all design and construction phases. Responsibilities include field investigations, preliminary designs, obtaining regulatory approvals, and final design documentation. You may also support mechanical and electrical engineering projects. You will help manage consultant and construction contracts to ensure timely and budget-compliant project execution. Your role will involve developing project scopes, conducting inspections, assessing conditions, preparing engineering reports, and creating innovative design solutions.
