Position Summary:
The Clinical Exercise Physiologist I collaborates closely with a multidisciplinary healthcare team to coordinate evidence-based exercise therapy aligned with patient-centered medical goals. Key responsibilities include assessing patients, monitoring their progress, and implementing exercise prescriptions. Leveraging evidence-based practices, protocols, and guidelines, the Clinical Exercise Physiologist I plays a crucial role in patient care, education, program development, and quality improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Patient Assessment and Monitoring: Utilize standardized practices and critical thinking to assess exercise therapy needs. Identify potential medical issues and report to the MD or RN; recognize unsafe exercise situations and intervene to ensure patient safety; monitor exercise responses such as heart rate, rhythm, blood pressure, blood glucose, and oxygen saturation. Participate in patient care conferences.
- Clinical Exercise Prescription: Under the supervision of the Program Medical Director and/or a Clinical Exercise Physiologist II, develop and implement exercise prescriptions tailored to patients’ age, medical history, and individual needs. Monitor treatment plans and engage in the discharge planning process, demonstrating clinical and age-specific competencies.
- Compliance and Quality Improvement: Assist in maintaining compliance with standards set by the Joint Commission, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, Healthcare Facilities Accreditation Program (HFAP), American Association for Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR), and other accrediting bodies.
