The College Aide position (Freshman - Sophomore) is a part-time role offering 35 hours of work when school is not in session, within the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene's Division of Environmental Health. This division is committed to preventing and controlling illnesses and injuries related to environmental and occupational health risks through a combination of outreach, education, surveillance, and enforcement. With a dedicated team of over 1,000 professionals, the division oversees various crucial areas including environmental investigations, lead poisoning prevention, occupational health, food safety, childcare, radiation control, and more.
The Bureau of Food Safety and Community Sanitation (BFSCS) plays a vital role in safeguarding public health, particularly for New York's vulnerable populations. Responsibilities encompass monitoring food safety in public dining establishments, compliance checks in various facilities (like tattoo parlors and homeless shelters), and responding to environmental health complaints from residents.
Key Responsibilities:
- Phase I (May 5 through September 30, 2026): Prepare statistical reports, enter, and analyze data in the BFSCS database, manage phone inquiries, and perform various administrative tasks.
- Assist in the central office by creating, editing, and updating records in NYC and NYS database systems.
- Reconcile data in preparation for the Summer Feeding Program.
- Complete online and in-class training to obtain a Food Protection Certificate.
