Become a vital member of CERN's Electrical Engineering team, where you'll contribute to the operational excellence and commissioning of our robust electrical transmission and distribution network. We seek a dedicated electrical engineer who possesses experience in power system testing and commissioning, along with comprehensive knowledge of High Voltage (HV) and Low Voltage (LV) installations and protection systems. Your expertise will be crucial in delivering innovative infrastructure during CERN's Long Shutdown 3 and beyond.
Your Responsibilities
- Lead or co-lead the commissioning of HV and LV electrical systems, which include switchgears, transformers, circuit breakers, UPS, 48 V DC systems, and protection relays.
- Develop detailed commissioning procedures, test plans, and risk assessments.
- Conduct advanced commissioning tests encompassing protection logic, SCADA communication, and interlocking functions.
- Diagnose commissioning challenges and implement effective corrective actions.
- Collaborate with project teams, operations, and external suppliers to achieve project goals.
- Generate comprehensive commissioning reports and manage CERN documentation.
- Assist with operational activities, including periodic network testing as needed.
- Supervise and mentor team members as part of your role.
Your Profile
- Demonstrated experience in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, Protection and Control, or Commissioning.
- Hands-on familiarity with HV/LV equipment, protection relays, and power system operations.
- Practical experience in testing or commissioning electrical systems is advantageous.
Skills
- Proficient in the operation and maintenance of electrical circuits and networks.
- Competent in the construction, testing, and commissioning of electrical circuits and networks.
- Strong organizational, planning, and supervisory skills, including overseeing project work.
- Ability to work independently while managing commissioning tasks within project timelines.
- Exceptional problem-solving capabilities, communication skills, and readiness for fieldwork.
- Fluent in spoken and written English, with a willingness to learn French.
Eligibility Criteria:
- You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
- You hold a professional background in Electrical Engineering (or a related field) with one of the following qualifications:
- a Master's degree with 2 to 6 years of post-graduation professional experience;
- or a PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience.
- You have never held a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
