About the Role
As a Cook I at Ocean Steak, you will play a vital role in delivering exceptional culinary experiences by preparing, cooking, and presenting a diverse array of hot and cold food items using fresh ingredients and following recipes and standard operating procedures (SOPs). Your commitment to health and safety standards will ensure that every dish not only meets but exceeds the expectations set by Ocean Casino and regulatory authorities.
Position Responsibilities
- Skillfully prepares and cooks food from scratch per orders and instructions from chefs and managers.
- Utilizes various cooking styles, including à la carte, banquet, and buffet service.
- Delivers top-notch food quality and service to guests on Ocean Casino property and at offsite events.
- Interprets food orders and verbal instructions to prepare and present dishes accurately.
- Demonstrates proficiency in a range of cooking techniques including sautéing, grilling, frying, and more.
- Operates standard kitchen equipment safely and efficiently.
- Understands and applies proper cooking temperatures for various proteins and vegetables.
- Capable of performing responsibilities of Cook II, Cook III, and kitchen runner as needed.
- Works independently with minimal supervision while adhering to all responsibilities.
- Maintains cleanliness and organization of workstations at all times.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
Essential Functions
- Ability to read and adapt recipes according to production requirements.
- Capable of continuous standing and walking for extended periods.
- Must be able to lift heavy items (up to 50 lbs) and perform repetitive tasks.
- Ability to work in both hot and cold environments.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Serv Safe certification preferred.
- 2+ years of relevant cooking experience in a professional kitchen.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
