Amref Health Africa in Kenya is on the lookout for a dynamic and strategic Country Director to spearhead the organization’s transformation from a program implementer to an innovative system designer. This leadership role will focus on co-creating people-centered primary health care (PHC) systems while addressing the social determinants of health through collaboration with communities and governmental bodies.
The Country Director will be responsible for the successful execution of Amref Health Africa in Kenya’s 2023–2030 Strategic Plan and Sustainability Framework. The aim is to ensure substantial systemic impact, diversification of revenue streams, and the implementation of innovative financing mechanisms. This senior leadership position will advocate for digital transformation, integrate data science and AI, and elevate Amref’s presence as a thought leader in the realms of Primary Health Care and Universal Health Coverage.
The successful candidate will report directly to the Board Chair of Amref Health Africa in Kenya, while maintaining a collaborative relationship with the Group Programme Director at Amref HQ.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive community-led PHC systems impact by enhancing PHC/UHC outcomes, integrating social determinants and ESG excellence, and facilitating government adoption at scale.
- Lead initiatives in digital transformation, data science, and AI to enhance decision-making, improve program performance, and ensure health system efficiency through effective monitoring, evaluation, analytical insights, and learning.
- Achieve financial sustainability and resilience through stringent financial management, compliance, improved cost efficiency, bolstered reserves, diversified revenue, and innovative financing strategies for scale.
- Cultivate a high-performing, values-driven culture by leading and developing a diverse, accountable Senior Management Team, enhancing leadership pipelines, and promoting staff engagement, wellbeing, and retention.
- Enhance influence, visibility, and partnerships as the principal spokesperson for Amref Health Africa in Kenya—deepening collaborations with government, donors, and the private sector; turning impactful narratives into policy influence, and shaping discourse in the PHC/UHC landscape.
