Summary
The Wikimedia Foundation is seeking a talented Data Science Manager to helm the Product Analytics team, reporting directly to the Senior Director of Research and Decision Science. In this pivotal role, you will oversee a team of data scientists whose insights shape the strategies and tactics crucial to realizing our mission: to empower every individual to freely share in the collective knowledge of humanity. Your team will collaborate with product managers, designers, engineers, and various stakeholders across the Wikimedia movement, delivering actionable data and insights that drive informed decision-making within the Foundation and the wider Wikimedia communities.
As the Data Science Manager for Product Analytics, you will be responsible for guiding a team of approximately seven data scientists. Together, you will leverage quantitative data to help product development teams better understand our audiences, refine strategies, inform product decisions, and evaluate the impacts of new features. You will be accountable for ensuring the timely delivery of high-quality work, maintaining data accuracy, and establishing consistent reporting processes. Additionally, you will support the design of data products and tools that enhance accessibility to vital data for stakeholders and decision-makers.
Ideal candidates must reside within the UTC+1 to UTC-8 time zones, be available for critical meetings and synchronous work between 14:00 and 22:00 UTC, and be willing to travel for offsite meetings and conferences (up to four times per year).
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure the timely delivery of precise quantitative data and insights to guide strategy, influence product decisions, and assess the impact of development initiatives, balancing adaptability with methodological rigor.
- Lead and nurture a team of about seven data scientists, fostering a collaborative and inclusive culture founded on trust, excellence, and empowerment.
- Mentor team members in critical thinking, data storytelling, technical skills, and stakeholder engagement.
- Collaborate with the Experiment Platform and Data Engineering teams to develop and sustain data products that enhance accessibility of insights.
- Work closely with product teams, particularly product managers, and colleagues within the Research & Decision Science group to promote data-informed product development and decision-making practices.
- Continuously enhance experimentation and measurement best practices to ensure the reliability and relevance of our insights.
