The Office of Data Analytics (ODA) collaborates with City agencies to leverage data for more equitable and effective services for New Yorkers. This includes analyzing agency data to enhance operations and making Open Data more accessible. As a part of the newly established Office of Technology and Innovation, ODA is taking on a more significant role in shaping the infrastructure for non-public data sharing among City agencies, automating data feeds, ensuring robust quality assurance, and improving the user experience of the City’s data-sharing platforms.
ODA is looking for a Data Scientist to join our diverse, mission-driven urban analytics team. As part of the Analytics team, you will practice and promote responsible and open analytics in New York City. Our data scientists are curious and question-driven but also eager to roll up their sleeves and provide timely insights to complex challenges. The Data Scientist will undertake data analytics projects that inform policies, programs, and operational practices within agencies or across multiple agencies.
The Data Scientist will report to the Director of Data Science and collaborate closely with other members of the Analytics Team and the ODA office on various projects.
Key responsibilities include:
- Acting as lead or supporting analyst on data analytics projects, partnering with project managers, policy analysts, ODA leadership, and legal counsel;
- Providing project management, research, and knowledge capture support as required, including developing precise and accurate communications and deliverables, which may undergo limited review before delivery. You will also facilitate discussions with City agency clients;
- Leading or supporting the decision-making process for scoping and designing analyses under the guidance of project lead analysts or ODA leadership;
- Taking on the role of lead project manager for analytics projects with minimal coaching to develop project timelines and deliverables.
