About the job
Why This Role is Important?
The DCS (Distributed Control System) & Instrumentation Engineer is essential for guaranteeing the safe, dependable, and efficient operation of the sewage treatment plant. This position is integral to the automation and control processes of the plant, directly influencing performance, compliance, and operational stability.
Your Responsibilities
As a DCS & Instrumentation Engineer with extensive experience in ABB DCS (e.g., ABB 800xA, Freelance) and SCADA systems, you will be tasked with comprehensive oversight of process control, ensuring the reliability of instrumentation assets, and managing industrial communications. A key aspect of your role will be maintaining the integrity of Profibus (DP/PA) networks in a sewage treatment plant environment characterized by corrosive and H₂S-prone conditions, while prioritizing safety, compliance, and optimal plant performance.
- DCS / SCADA & Control Systems
- Administer, operate, and fine-tune ABB DCS, including control strategies, graphical interfaces, alarm systems, trends, historian tags, and backup/restore protocols.
- Enhance SCADA interfaces, dashboards, and reporting mechanisms to meet O&M and compliance KPIs.
- Develop, test, and execute logic modifications (including loop tuning, interlocks, permissives, and sequences) following strict Management of Change (MOC) procedures.
- Oversee alarm rationalization and limit settings to minimize nuisance alarms and enhance operator efficiency.
- Coordinate factory and site acceptance testing (FAT/SAT) for modifications and expansions of the control systems.
- Instrumentation
- Manage the entire lifecycle of field instruments, covering selection, installation, calibration, loop checks, diagnostics, and replacements.
- Work with various instruments, including DO, pH/ORP, turbidity, ammonium/nitrate, chlorine, flow (magnetic/ultrasonic), pressure, level (radar/ultrasonic), vibration, temperature, and gas detection devices.
- Profibus DP/PA & Industrial Communication
- Guarantee the reliability of Profibus DP/PA networks, focusing on topology design, segment diagnostics, termination, shielding/earthing, redundancy, spur lengths, baud rates, device addressing, and GSD management.
- Utilize diagnostic tools (e.g., bus analyzers) to troubleshoot issues such as noise, reflections, voltage drops, telegram errors, and intermittent faults.
- Integrate field devices through Profibus PA couplers/links and gateways to ABB DCS/SCADA; maintain and update device libraries.
- Collaborate with electrical and control teams on EMI mitigation, cable routing, and adherence to panel/earthing standards.
- Support integration with MCCs/VFDs, PLC systems, and plant SCADA/IMS/CMMS frameworks.
- Safety, Compliance & Cybersecurity
- Ensure that all DCS/SIS activities meet plant safety standards, IEC specifications, and cybersecurity protocols.
