About the job
About the Agency:
The New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) is committed to enhancing the quality and affordability of housing throughout the city, ensuring that every New Yorker has access to a safe and affordable home in a community they cherish.
HPD focuses on:
- Maintaining the safety and health of residential buildings
- Creating opportunities for housing affordability
- Engaging with communities to foster neighborhood strength and diversity.
HPD operates under the framework of “Housing Our Neighbors: A Blueprint for Housing and Homelessness,” a comprehensive strategy led by Mayor Adams, which includes a historic investment of $5 billion in new capital funding towards a total of $22 billion over ten years. This initiative aims to address the complex housing challenges facing New York City, including homelessness and housing instability, while promoting economic mobility and equitable growth.
Your Team:
The Office of Economic Opportunity and Regulatory Compliance (EORC) spearheads efforts to foster inclusion and economic opportunity within the agency while ensuring compliance with legal mandates on existing projects. The Labor Monitoring Unit (LMU), a segment of EORC, oversees compliance in affordable housing construction projects with federal, state, and local labor laws. Labor compliance officers within LMU conduct payroll analyses and site visits to ensure fair labor practices, investigate wage theft, and uphold labor standards.
Your Impact:
As the Deputy Director of the Labor Monitoring Unit, you will operate under the guidance of the Director, exercising significant discretion in decision-making. You will interact with governmental bodies, conduct high-level policy analysis, and provide strategic recommendations concerning regulatory compliance.
