Job Purpose
The Director of Startup Support will spearhead the development and execution of a comprehensive strategy to assist startups throughout their venture lifecycle—from ideation and early-stage incubation to acceleration, investment readiness, and portfolio management. This pivotal role will oversee the creation and implementation of impactful support programs, guiding startups toward sustainable growth and investment opportunities while fostering strong partnerships with investors, corporations, and ecosystem stakeholders.
The ideal candidate will possess a profound understanding of the African Innovation and Startup Ecosystem, with experience in venture building, scaling startups, and managing portfolios. They will adeptly lead cross-functional teams while aligning with the organization’s innovation and impact goals.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership, Cross-Functional Collaboration, and Oversight
Provide strategic oversight and direction for startup support operations and partnerships across all CcHUB locations and supported hubs continent-wide, developing and executing a cohesive strategy that encompasses the entire venture lifecycle, from pre-incubation to post-investment support, in alignment with the organization’s vision and strategy.
Oversee the integration and coordination of three core pillars of the CcHUB Startup Support approach: Venture Programs, Portfolio Management, and Investment Management.
Collaborate closely with executive leadership to ensure startup support aligns with broader organizational objectives and innovation priorities.
Engage with sector Practice Leads (Education, Health, Creative) and the Design Lab to ensure Startup Support programs align with strategic focus areas and sector pipelines.
Partner with the Innovation Hub Strengthening Unit to share best practices and enhance partner hub performance across Africa.
Program Design and Delivery
Guide the Venture Programs Sub-Lead in designing and implementing customized support programs (e.g., pre-incubation, incubation, acceleration) that address the unique needs of startups at various maturity levels.
Ensure programs embody global best practices, integrate local insights, and respond to current ecosystem trends and future challenges.
Foster a culture of continuous improvement by utilizing data and feedback to refine offerings and amplify program impact.
Ensure that startup support programming incorporates emerging technologies (such as AI, DPI, and green tech) and promotes sustainable innovation.
