At Dublin Veterinary Hospital, we believe in fostering the next generation of veterinary professionals. Our externship and preceptorship program provides students with invaluable hands-on experience in a well-established practice, enhancing your education and ensuring you are prepared to deliver exceptional care after graduation.
Program Highlights:
The externship duration is flexible, typically ranging from two to three weeks, but can extend up to eight weeks to accommodate your academic schedule. Externs will experience a mix of day, evening, and weekend shifts.
During your externship, you will work closely with our dedicated veterinary team, honing your problem-solving, technical, and communication skills under professional supervision. You will engage in all aspects of patient care and receive a weekly stipend of $250.
Your Role:
As part of our team, you will handle a diverse caseload typical of a small animal practice. Under the guidance of a mentor, you will collect patient histories, conduct physical examinations, formulate diagnostic and therapeutic plans, assist in surgical procedures, manage medical cases, provide wellness care, and develop your client communication skills while maintaining accurate medical records (SOAP notes).
Candidate Profile:
We seek enthusiastic and dedicated veterinary students who are eager to learn and actively participate in our patient care activities, upholding our professional and ethical standards. Familiarity with the Veterinary Practice Act is recommended to ensure compliance with the scope of duties and necessary supervision.
