The Electrical Estimator plays a crucial role in analyzing, evaluating, and interpreting project plans, designs, and specifications. This position is responsible for determining the necessary resources required for projects based on extensive scopes of work. The Estimator generates comprehensive estimates encompassing labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs, and where necessary, collaborates with external purchasing agents. The role includes obtaining competitive bids from vendors and subcontractors, aiding in contract negotiations, and working closely with internal teams and clients to formulate the most competitive project proposals and bids. During periods of lower workload, the Estimator will also assist Project Managers by estimating Change Orders.
Key Responsibilities
Client Engagement:
- Participate in Pre-Bid Meetings to grasp the project’s intent and ensure it meets the Owner’s requirements. Evaluate the extent of demolition required in existing structures and how current building systems will integrate with new projects.
- Prepare Requests for Information (RFIs) to clarify conflicts in Bid Documents and provide needed direction for accurately estimating costs that meet the Client’s electrical requirements.
- Support lead follow-ups and referrals based on field activities regarding future opportunities, and follow up on submitted electrical proposals to gauge the status of bid evaluations.
·Estimating:
- Proficiently read and interpret specifications and multiple trade drawings to ascertain the complete electrical requirements for projects.
- Develop detailed itemized costs through Construction Systems’ breakdowns via computer-generated counts and take-offs, utilizing software such as Accu-bid and Enterprise.
- Accurately estimate equipment, labor resources, project costs, and materials required to execute each project.
- Create quantitative counts to formulate a Bill of Material letter for submission to Suppliers and Subcontractors to obtain quotes for the specified materials and services.
- Navigate Clients’ plan room websites to download updated bid documents upon notification of Addendums, Amendments, and/or Clarifications.
- Complete estimating tasks within stringent timelines to meet client deadlines.
- Utilize Bluebeam Revu 2016 to annotate drawings and documents, providing detailed notes to inform the Architect/Engineer Team in RFI format and to clarify the Estimator’s take-off intentions regarding project specifics.
- Assist in the creation of the electrical scope letter to ensure clarity and precision in project scope.
