THE JOB
At VEG, we don’t just hire assistants; we cultivate future emergency veterinary stars. As an Emergency Veterinary Assistant, you will be integral from day one, providing support to your team, comforting pet owners, and gaining hands-on experience in the fast-paced environment of emergency care. You’ll be involved in triage, treatments, and every wagging tail that walks through our doors. This is the beginning of a fulfilling career path, whether you aspire to become a credentialed technician or are exploring your passions in veterinary medicine. WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Offer a warm welcome and steady support, triaging incoming patients and guiding them towards care.
- Assist with treatments, nursing care, and diagnostics, including bloodwork, imaging, catheter placement, and oxygen support.
- Collaborate with our skilled veterinary technicians and veterinarians in setting up and monitoring anesthesia and sedation cases.
- Manage IV fluids, blood transfusions, and medication administration.
- Support patient care in every setting: from outpatient to inpatient, and from exam rooms to treatment areas.
- Participate in patient rounds to ensure continuity of care.
- Learn CPR and become a RECOVER Certified Rescuer (training provided).
- Advance to more complex responsibilities, such as anesthesia monitoring.
