As a High School Math Teacher at Uncommon Schools, you will collaborate with grade and content teams to guide students towards becoming independent learners. Our educators are not only masters of their subject matter but also possess the unique ability to inspire and motivate high school learners. A genuine passion for mathematics is at the core of every lesson. You will employ diverse instructional strategies to help students understand, navigate, and solve mathematical challenges. By the end of high school, our students are equipped for academic independence and ready for college-level coursework.
Key Responsibilities
1. Instruction
- Deliver a comprehensive Math curriculum covering topics such as Algebra, Geometry, or Calculus, preparing students for Advanced Placement (AP) and higher education.
- Support students in problem-solving and critical thinking.
- Utilize your enthusiasm for mathematics to nurture confidence and engagement among students.
- Encourage students to develop logical arguments using mathematical reasoning, terminology, tools, and principles.
- Create a supportive environment fostering self-directed learning, where students feel secure and motivated.
- Collaborate with the Math department to set academic and engagement goals for students.
2. Data Analysis
- Engage in weekly discussions with your principal and/or instructional coach to evaluate trends in student performance and assessments.
- Implement differentiated instructional strategies to cater to diverse learning needs.
3. School Culture
- Establish positive relationships with students to ensure they feel valued and heard.
- Work closely with students' families to provide necessary resources to support their learning.
- Participate in ongoing professional development, mentorship, and coaching.
- Attend weekly school-wide meetings to foster community, exemplify our core values, and promote student success.
- Collaborate with your grade-level team to establish academic goals and refine instructional methods.
