Job Purpose
The Engineering Designer will be responsible for developing and refining product designs, applying engineering principles while working under moderate supervision. This role is crucial in ensuring that all designs meet rigorous quality and performance standards, along with preparing and overseeing precise technical documentation for new and revised products.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
Design products of moderate complexity in alignment with engineering input and project requirements, ensuring compliance with quality standards.
Create detailed CAD-based layouts utilizing CREO, incorporating multi-dimensional model features to accurately depict design concepts.
Assess designs for form, fit, function, manufacturability, assembly, and usability using CAD tools and engineering calculations.
Choose appropriate materials, standard components, and engineering guidelines by referencing catalogs and existing product data.
Engage with suppliers and manufacturing teams to gather essential information regarding prototype fabrication, materials, processes, and purchased components.
Prepare comprehensive engineering documentation including Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), Bills of Materials (BOMs), parts lists, specifications, and supporting forms using CAD tools or office software.
Estimate time requirements for design tasks and regularly communicate progress to ensure project timelines are met.
Internal and External Relationships
Internal Contacts
Frequent collaboration with engineering teams to discuss design criteria, schedules, and problem-solving strategies.
Occasional interaction with manufacturing departments.
Moderate engagement with Purchasing, Engineering IT, Marketing, Model Shop, and Product Analysis Lab.
External Contacts
Moderate interaction with suppliers for catalog inquiries, sample requests, prototype discussions, and information gathering.
Business Expertise
A solid understanding of team operations and awareness of industry trends, market developments, and competitor offerings is essential for this role.
