Salary and Benefits
Annual base salary for newly appointed Border Patrol Agents varies by grade level, specifically GL-5/GL-7 ranging from $51,632 to $92,219 per year. Agents are eligible for a comprehensive benefits package that includes health, dental, and various insurance plans, along with a generous annual and sick leave program. Additionally, you can participate in the Thrift Savings Plan, a retirement plan similar to a traditional ROTH 401(k).
Recruitment Incentive
Newly appointed Border Patrol Agents are eligible for up to $20,000 in recruitment incentives, with the first $10,000 awarded upon successful completion of the Border Patrol Academy and the remaining $10,000 for accepting a prioritized location in Texas, New Mexico, or Arizona.
Retention Incentive
There are further opportunities for newly appointed Border Patrol Agents to qualify for up to $40,000 in retention incentives distributed throughout their first four years.
Duty Locations
Please be aware that duty assignments available at the time of offer may include various locations along the Southwest Border, which may necessitate relocation. Note that duty location can impact pay rates, with locality pay for federal law enforcement varying by location. A fully trained BPA may qualify for an additional 25% of base pay as stipulated by the BPA Pay Reform Act of 2014. This is a career ladder position with promotional opportunities from GL-5 to GS-12.
