Salary and Benefits
The annual base salary for newly appointed BPAs ranges from $51,632 to $92,219 depending on grade level (GL-5 to GL-7). Employees are eligible for a variety of federal benefits, including health and dental insurance, generous leave policies, and access to the Thrift Savings Plan, a retirement savings option similar to a traditional ROTH 401(k).
Incentives
Newly appointed BPAs may qualify for recruitment incentives of up to $20,000, distributed as $10,000 upon successful completion of the Border Patrol Academy and an additional $10,000 for accepting a prioritized duty location. Additionally, retention incentives of up to $40,000 are available over the first four years of service.
Duty Locations
Please note that duty assignments may be located at the Southwest Border, which includes prioritized locations. USBP determines duty assignments based on operational requirements, and relocation may be necessary. Fully trained BPAs can receive additional locality pay, potentially increasing their salary by up to 25% based on the BPA Pay Reform Act of 2014. This is a career ladder position with opportunities for advancement from GL-5 to GS-12.
