Salary and Benefits
For newly appointed Border Patrol Agents, the annual base salary varies based on grade level, ranging from GL-5/GL-7 with salaries between $51,632 and $92,219 per year. Agents can select from a comprehensive array of federal benefits, including health and dental insurance, generous leave programs, and participation in the Thrift Savings Plan, a retirement plan similar to a traditional ROTH 401(k).
Recruitment Incentive
Newly appointed Border Patrol Agents are eligible for up to $20,000 in incentives, with the first $10,000 awarded upon successful completion of the Border Patrol Academy and an additional $10,000 for accepting a prioritized duty location.
Retention Incentive
Newly appointed Agents may also qualify for up to $40,000 in additional incentives over the first four years of service.
Duty Locations
Please note that duty assignments may include locations along the Southwest Border, and relocation may be required. The U.S. Border Patrol determines duty assignments based on operational needs, which may differ from candidates' preferences. Additionally, pay rates may vary by duty location, with locality pay potentially increasing base pay by up to 25%. This position offers career progression from GL-5 to GS-12.
