About the job
Are you ready to embark on a career that truly matters? The U.S. Border Patrol (USBP) is seeking dedicated individuals who are interested in making a significant impact in federal law enforcement. As an entry-level Border Patrol Agent, you will be part of an elite team committed to protecting our nation's borders and ensuring the safety of its citizens.
USBP is currently hiring for full-time positions, and your background in public safety, security, military police, or law enforcement could qualify you for this rewarding career. Experience the camaraderie and sense of pride that comes from working with a team of professionals focused on a common mission.
In addition to competitive base pay, you will enjoy exceptional benefits and job stability, along with the potential for up to $60,000 in recruitment and retention incentives (details below).
Salary and Benefits
Newly appointed BPAs will receive an annual base salary ranging from $51,632 to $92,219 based on grade level (GL-5/GL-7). You will have access to a comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, and other insurance plans, a generous leave program, and participation in the Thrift Savings Plan—similar to a traditional ROTH 401(k).
Incentives
Newly appointed Border Patrol Agents may receive up to $20,000 in recruitment incentives, with $10,000 payable upon successful completion of the Border Patrol Academy and an additional $10,000 for accepting positions in prioritized locations such as Sierra Blanca, TX; Lordsburg, NM; or Ajo, AZ. Furthermore, you may qualify for up to $40,000 in retention incentives distributed over your first four years.
Duty Locations
Please note, duty assignments available at the time of offer may include the Southwest Border and prioritized locations. The U.S. Border Patrol determines duty assignments based on operational needs, which may not align with individual preferences. Relocation may be required.
Duty locations can impact pay rates, and locality pay for federal law enforcement may be higher in certain areas. Fully trained BPAs may be eligible for an additional 25% of base pay under the BPA Pay Reform Act of 2014. This is a career ladder position with opportunities for advancement through various grade levels: GL-5, GL-7, GL-9, GS-11, and GS-12.
