Become part of an elite team where camaraderie, pride, and a strong sense of purpose are integral to our daily mission of safeguarding America.
Now is the perfect time to apply, as USBP offers not only competitive base pay but also exceptional benefits and job stability. In addition, USBP provides up to $60,000 in incentives (details below).
Salary and Benefits
The annual base salary for newly appointed BPAs ranges from $51,632 to $92,219, depending on grade (GL-5/GL-7). BPAs are entitled to a comprehensive package of federal employment benefits, including health and dental insurance, a generous leave program, and participation in the Thrift Savings Plan, a retirement plan similar to a traditional ROTH 401(k).
Recruitment Incentive
New Border Patrol Agents are eligible for up to $20,000 in recruitment incentives. The first $10,000 is awarded upon successful completion of the Border Patrol Academy, with the remaining $10,000 provided for accepting a position in prioritized locations such as Sierra Blanca, Presidio, Sanderson, Comstock, Freer, or Hebbronville, TX; Lordsburg, NM; or Ajo, AZ.
Retention Incentive
Newly appointed Border Patrol Agents may also qualify for up to $40,000 in retention incentives distributed over their first four years.
Duty Locations
IMPORTANT NOTICE: Duty assignments available at the time of offer may include the Southwest Border or other prioritized locations.
The U.S. Border Patrol determines duty assignments during the offer process based on operational requirements, which may not align with candidates' preferences. RELOCATION MAY BE REQUIRED.
Duty location affects pay rates; locality pay for federal law enforcement varies by location, and a fully trained BPA may be eligible for an additional 25% of base pay under the BPA Pay Reform Act of 2014. This is a career ladder position with opportunities for grade level progression from GL-5 to GL-12.
