The U.S. Border Patrol (USBP) is actively seeking dedicated individuals for full-time, entry-level Border Patrol Agent positions within the Federal Security and Public Safety Sector. Salary and Benefits
Newly appointed BPAs earn an annual base salary ranging from $51,632 to $92,219, depending on the grade level (GL-5/GL-7). You will have access to a comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, and other insurance options, generous annual and sick leave, as well as participation in the Thrift Savings Plan, a retirement savings plan similar to a traditional ROTH 401(k).
Recruitment Incentive
Newly appointed Border Patrol Agents are eligible for up to $20,000 in incentives, with the first $10,000 awarded upon successful completion of the Border Patrol Academy and the remaining $10,000 for accepting a prioritized duty location.
Retention Incentive
Additionally, BPAs may qualify for up to $40,000 in retention incentives spread over the first four years of service.
Duty Locations
IMPORTANT NOTICE: Duty assignments at the time of offer may include the Southwest Border, with potential relocation required.
U.S. Border Patrol assigns duty locations based on operational needs, which may not align with candidates’ first-choice preferences. Pay rates may vary depending on locality, with trained BPAs eligible for an additional 25% of base pay per the BPA Pay Reform Act of 2014. This is a career ladder position with opportunities for advancement through grade levels GL-5, GL-7, GL-9, GS-11, and GS-12.
