Salary and Benefits
Annual base salary for newly appointed Border Patrol Agents ranges between $51,632 and $92,219 depending on grade level (GL-5/GL-7). You will have access to a comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, and other insurance plans, a generous leave program, and participation in the Thrift Savings Plan (similar to a traditional ROTH 401(k)).
Recruitment Incentive
Newly appointed Border Patrol Agents may qualify for up to $20,000 in incentives, with $10,000 awarded upon successful completion of the Border Patrol Academy, and the remaining $10,000 for accepting a prioritized location (e.g., Sierra Blanca, TX; Lordsburg, NM; Ajo, AZ).
Retention Incentive
Agents may also qualify for an additional $40,000 in incentives distributed over their first four years.
Duty Locations
Please note that duty assignments may include the Southwest Border, with potential relocation required. The U.S. Border Patrol will determine duty assignments based on operational needs. A fully trained BPA may be eligible for up to 25% of additional base pay as per the BPA Pay Reform Act of 2014. This is a career ladder position with opportunities for advancement through grade levels GL-5 to GS-12.
