Salary and Benefits
The annual base salary for newly appointed Border Patrol Agents ranges from $51,632 to $92,219, depending on the grade level (GL-5 to GL-7). As a Border Patrol Agent, you will have access to various federal employment benefits, including health and dental insurance, a comprehensive leave program, and participation in the Thrift Savings Plan, a retirement option similar to a traditional ROTH 401(k).
Recruitment Incentive
Newly appointed Border Patrol Agents are eligible for up to $20,000 in recruitment incentives. The first $10,000 is awarded upon successful completion of the Border Patrol Academy, with the remaining $10,000 granted for accepting a position in prioritized locations such as Sierra Blanca, Presidio, Sanderson, Comstock, Freer, or Hebbronville, TX; Lordsburg, NM; or Ajo, AZ.
Retention Incentive
Newly appointed Border Patrol Agents may also qualify for up to $40,000 in retention incentives distributed over the first four years.
Duty Locations
Please note that duty assignments available at the time of your offer may include locations along the Southwest Border, including prioritized areas. Relocation may be required.
Duty location affects pay rates, as locality pay for federal law enforcement varies by location. A fully trained Border Patrol Agent may be eligible for up to an additional 25% of base pay in accordance with the BPA Pay Reform Act of 2014. This position offers a career ladder with grade level progression from GL-5 to GS-12.
