About the job
If you aspire to a career that impacts national security and public safety, consider joining the U.S. Border Patrol (USBP) as an Entry Level Border Patrol Agent (BPA). This is not just a job; it's a commitment to a mission that safeguards our country and its citizens every day.
As part of the USBP, you will collaborate with a distinguished team of professionals dedicated to protecting America. We are actively hiring for full-time, entry-level positions where your experience in public safety, security, military police, or law enforcement may qualify you for this rewarding role.
Take advantage of competitive base pay, outstanding benefits, and job security. Additionally, USBP is offering up to $60,000 in recruitment and retention incentives—details are outlined below.
Salary and Benefits
Newly appointed BPAs will earn an annual base salary ranging from $51,632 to $92,219 depending on the grade level (GL-5/GL-7). As a BPA, you will have access to a comprehensive benefits package, including health and dental insurance, a generous leave program, and participation in the Thrift Savings Plan, similar to a traditional ROTH 401(k).
Recruitment Incentive
Eligible newly appointed BPAs can receive up to $20,000 in incentives. The first $10,000 is awarded upon successful completion of the Border Patrol Academy, with the remaining $10,000 granted for accepting a prioritized location such as Sierra Blanca, Presidio, or Freer, TX; Lordsburg, NM; or Ajo, AZ.
Retention Incentive
Newly appointed BPAs may qualify for an additional $40,000 in incentives spread over their first four years.
Duty Locations
Please note that duty assignments may include various locations along the Southwest Border. USBP determines these assignments based on operational needs, which may differ from candidates' preferences. Relocation may be required.
Duty locations can affect pay rates, with locality pay potentially increasing base pay by up to 25% in certain areas as per the BPA Pay Reform Act of 2014. This is a career ladder position with progression opportunities through GL-5, GL-7, GL-9, GS-11, and GS-12 levels.
