Salary and Benefits
Newly appointed Border Patrol Agents will receive an annual base salary ranging from $51,632 to $92,219, depending on the grade level (GL-5/GL-7). You will have access to an extensive range of federal employment benefits, including health and dental insurance, a generous leave program, and participation in the Thrift Savings Plan, a retirement plan similar to a traditional ROTH 401(k).
Recruitment Incentive
Eligible newly appointed Border Patrol Agents can earn up to $20,000 in recruitment incentives. The first $10,000 will be awarded upon successful completion of the Border Patrol Academy, with the remaining $10,000 available for those accepting positions in prioritized locations such as Sierra Blanca and Presidio, TX; Lordsburg, NM; or Ajo, AZ.
Retention Incentive
Newly appointed Border Patrol Agents may also qualify for up to $40,000 in retention incentives distributed over their first four years.
Duty Locations
Please note: Duty assignments at the time of offer may include locations along the Southwest Border. U.S. Border Patrol will determine duty assignments based on operational needs, which may not align with candidates' preferences. Relocation may be necessary.
Duty locations influence pay rates, with locality pay being higher in certain areas. Fully trained Border Patrol Agents may be eligible for an additional 25% of base pay according to the BPA Pay Reform Act of 2014. This is a career ladder position, progressing through GL-5, GL-7, GL-9, GS-11, and GS-12 levels.
