Salary and Benefits
As a newly appointed BPA, your annual salary will range from $51,632 to $92,219 depending on your grade level (GL-5/7). You will also have access to a comprehensive benefits package, including health and dental insurance, generous sick and annual leave, and participation in the Thrift Savings Plan, a retirement plan similar to a traditional ROTH 401(k).
Recruitment Incentive
Newly appointed BPAs may qualify for up to $20,000 in incentives, with $10,000 awarded upon successful completion of the Border Patrol Academy and the remaining $10,000 for accepting a position in prioritized locations such as Sierra Blanca, Presidio, Sanderson, Comstock, Freer, or Hebbronville, TX; Lordsburg, NM; or Ajo, AZ.
Retention Incentive
Newly appointed Border Patrol Agents can also be eligible for additional retention incentives totaling up to $40,000 over their first four years.
Duty Locations
Please note: Duty assignments at the time of offer may include the Southwest Border, with potential relocation required. U.S. Border Patrol determines duty assignments based on operational needs, which may not align with candidates' preferences. A fully trained BPA may earn an additional 25% of base pay under the BPA Pay Reform Act of 2014. This position offers a career ladder with progression through GL-5, GL-7, GL-9, GS-11, and GS-12 grades.
