Our Automation Team is at the forefront of integrating our innovative meal assembly automation system, the Infinite Kitchen (IK), into both new and existing restaurants. Our mission is to enhance the daily operations for our restaurant staff, streamline their workflows, and provide an exceptional customer experience.
As sweetgreen continues to expand its network of automated kitchens, we are seeking a dedicated Field Technician I - Automation Maintenance. This role will focus on maintaining our automation equipment nationwide and training new technicians to ensure operational excellence.
This position is perfect for someone with hands-on technical experience who is eager to engage with groundbreaking restaurant technology, all within a supportive and dynamic company culture.
This is a full-time, hourly position based in Northern California, offering an average of 50 guaranteed hours per week (including 10 hours of overtime at 1.5X pay), with travel requirements of up to 60% within the West Coast region. The initial 4-6 weeks of training will take place in Boston, followed by quarterly trips to Boston thereafter.

On-site work hours will vary but will generally include early weekday mornings and occasional emergency service visits on weekends. Applicants must be available and eligible for various forms of travel within the United States (plane, train, bus, taxi/rideshare). A valid driver’s license and a suitable vehicle for work travel are also required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Adhere to standard operating procedures (SOPs) to conduct preventative maintenance and field repairs on Infinite Kitchens.
- Execute prescribed hardware upgrades on existing IK systems.
- Collaborate remotely with senior technicians and hardware/software engineers to resolve unique technical challenges.
- Document and maintain field repair reports/work tickets, including relevant details such as photos and videos.
- Plan and manage your work schedule autonomously across various locations within a week.
- Foster positive relationships with head coaches and team members at stores in your region to ensure optimal performance of IK systems.
- Provide hands-on training and guidance to head coaches on standard cleaning procedures and any updates to store team member SOPs.
- Share insights and feedback with automation team engineers based on field experiences and findings.
