POSITION TITLE: Financial Counselor
REPORTS TO: Business Office Manager
PAY SCALE: $21.00 - $25.00 per hour
SCHEDULE: Full-time and Part-time options available.
Shift options include:
- Sunday to Wednesday, from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM (off Thursday to Saturday)
- Wednesday to Saturday, from 12:00 PM to 8:30 PM (off Sunday to Tuesday)
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Financial Counselor plays a vital role in the patient admission process, ensuring a smooth transition for new patients into our facility. This role encompasses patient interviews, the completion of admission forms, room assignments, and cashiering duties. The Financial Counselor also acts as a key resource for inquiries related to admissions and billing.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Patient Admissions: Facilitate patient admissions by interviewing incoming patients or their relatives, verifying insurance coverage, and processing all necessary admission paperwork. Ensure timely communication of admissions to relevant departments.
- Financial Counseling: Provide patients and their authorized family members with financial options before admission. Aid in resolving routine admission inquiries and collaborate with medical staff to gather necessary information for the admissions process.
- Payment Processing: Establish payment arrangements for self-pay patients and collect co-payments as applicable.
- Receptionist Support: Provide backup support at the reception desk when needed, including answering phone calls, greeting visitors, and directing inquiries appropriately.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum two years of experience in a healthcare setting.
- Minimum two years of experience in insurance verification.
- Familiarity with Medi-Cal and healthcare insurance verification and billing is preferred.
- Current NCI Certification (or to be obtained within the first 30 days of hire).
- Knowledge of CPT/ICD-10 coding is a plus.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology.
- Familiarity with key insurance concepts such as copays, coinsurance, deductibles, and out-of-pocket maximums.
- Ability to calculate patient estimated responsibilities based on benefits and scheduled procedures using Excel.
- Current CPI Certification (or to be obtained within the first 30 days of hire).
- Current BLS Certification (or to be obtained within the first 30 days of hire).
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Strong understanding of various insurance products, including HMO and PPO plans.
