Join our dedicated team as a Float Immediate Care Technician at Northwestern Medicine. This role is based in Sycamore, with responsibilities extending to McHenry, Crystal Lake, and Huntley Immediate Care Centers as required. The schedule includes three 12-hour shifts from 6:45 AM to 7:15 PM, with every third weekend and rotating holiday shifts.

- In this pivotal role, you will support physicians (MD) and advanced practice providers (APP) by facilitating patient flow, assisting with a variety of patient care activities, and performing essential administrative functions. Your responsibilities will include maintaining organized and safe patient care areas and enhancing patient satisfaction through professional and friendly interactions while safeguarding patient confidentiality.
Key Responsibilities:
Facilitate efficient patient flow:
- Escort patients to exam rooms, verifying identity with two identifiers and preparing them for examination.
- Accurately obtain vital signs per organizational standards.
- Document the reason for the visit and confirm allergies, smoking history, and pharmacy information.
- Promptly inform the MD/APP of any significant changes in vital signs or acute symptoms.
- Anticipate and prepare necessary equipment or supplies for patient visits.
- Maintain cleanliness and readiness of exam rooms for subsequent patients.
- Respond to needs to expedite patient visits and prioritize tasks accordingly.
- Assist with referrals, transfers, and discharge processes.
Assist MD/APP with medical and surgical procedures, including:
- Electrocardiograms (ECGs), venipunctures, immunizations, setting up procedure trays, specimen collection, CLIA-waived testing, and wound care as directed.
- Call in or electronically submit prescriptions as instructed.
Provide high-quality care by:
- Preparing and stocking all exam rooms while following established protocols for disinfecting and sterilizing equipment and instruments.
- Participating in environmental safety rounds.
- Maintaining a proper inventory of vaccines and medications.
- Ensuring medication cabinets are securely locked.
- Monitoring and maintaining equipment according to clinic guidelines.
- Assisting in the ordering of supplies and disposing of expired items correctly.
- Following office opening and closing procedures.
