During interviews, candidates will be requested to provide additional insights regarding their proposals.
Who are we looking for?
The UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) has initiated the FOSTER programme (Fusion Opportunities in Skills, Training, Education, and Research), offering a unique two-year post-doctoral fellowship allowing collaboration with an international organization. This initiative aims to enhance the research skills of post-doctoral candidates, facilitating their transition into industrial R&D roles or academic careers.
In conjunction with your fellowship, a scientist from the National Institute for Quantum Science and Technology (QST) in Japan will be appointed to perform a complementary role. You will provide each other with advisory support and participate in an exchange program that includes a minimum of three months spent at QST in Japan.
Electromagnetic loads are recognized as design-limiting factors for the core components of magnetic fusion machines, particularly during off-normal events. We seek a dynamic researcher at the forefront of this field to lead electromagnetic simulations regarding the engineering implications of these loads, emphasizing experimental validation. This role may involve coupling of interfacing physics, diagnostic development, and experimental design/optimization. The fellowship will leverage various experimental facilities at UKAEA for simulation validation, verification, and uncertainty quantification. The fellow will create a research plan for simulations, collaborate with experimentalists to define validation experiments, and oversee their execution, aiming to develop significant research related to integral tests at component scales that will be available in the UKAEA CHIMERA facility.
What will you be responsible for?
In this role, you will steer the direction of your research while fostering robust connections with our partner organizations...
