Main Requirements
- Possession of a full UK driver's license and access to a vehicle is mandatory.
- Applicants must provide a current and valid Enhanced CRB clearance.
- References to substantiate interpreting and translation experience are required.
- Fluency in English and cultural competency in your native languages is essential.
Role of an Interpreter & Translator
The role requires consecutive interpretation where the interpreter is in close proximity to the speaker, ensuring accurate conversion between languages without omissions or additions.
Translators will engage with various industries, handling documents ranging from scientific to legal and literary, ensuring the original meaning is retained accurately. A strong command of multiple languages is generally expected.
Interpretation Responsibilities
- Interpreters are permitted to interpret only in their native language.
- Comfortably interpret in various settings such as mental health facilities, GP practices, hospitals, dental practices, police settings, court proceedings, local authorities, schools, and solicitors.
- Interpret verbal communications in real-time, paying close attention to context, meaning, tone, and technical terminology.
- Consult reference materials to stay updated with terminologies and acquire specialized knowledge when necessary for clarity, especially in cases of conflicting meanings.
- Attend scheduled assignments, requiring self-transportation.
- Maintain high standards of professionalism, confidentiality, and adherence to the Interpreter Code of Conduct as set by NRPSI, IOL, ATC, and ITI.
- Engage in projects related to community outreach and feedback collection.
