As a Lab Demonstrator in the Civil Engineering department, you will play a crucial role in enhancing the learning experience for students. Your primary responsibilities will include providing expert technical support, conducting an array of experiments, and assisting faculty and researchers in laboratory settings. You will be instrumental in preparing engaging lab sessions, demonstrating equipment use, and guiding students through hands-on activities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and facilitate interactive laboratory sessions that captivate students.
- Showcase civil engineering experiments and proficiently operate specialized equipment and software.
- Guide students through experimental procedures, offering troubleshooting support and aiding in data interpretation.
- Ensure laboratory operations meet course objectives and faculty standards.
- Manage daily lab activities, including scheduling and resource management.
- Prepare equipment, materials, and experimental setups prior to each session.
- Maintain a systematic, clean, and efficient laboratory environment.
- Instruct on proper equipment and tool usage relevant to civil engineering.
- Calibrate and troubleshoot testing equipment for soil, concrete, aggregates, and asphalt.
- Keep comprehensive logs of equipment, calibration, and service records.
- Coordinate the procurement and maintenance of lab equipment and software.
- Identify material requirements and develop detailed equipment specifications.
- Conduct standard laboratory tests in compliance with ASTM, BS, and AASHTO protocols.
- Assist with field and laboratory surveying activities, including instrument setup, coordinate measurements, and data processing using surveying software.
- Implement and uphold laboratory safety standards, ensuring appropriate PPE usage and emergency protocols are followed.
- Provide safety training and briefings for students prior to lab activities.
- Perform additional tasks as directed by management.
