This role is integral to the health care team, primarily focused on supporting physicians, nurses, and licensed medical staff by facilitating efficient patient flow, assisting in various patient care activities, and performing essential administrative functions. The Medical Assistant is crucial in promoting patient satisfaction through professional interactions and safeguarding patient confidentiality.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure efficient patient flow: Escort patients to examination rooms, verify patient identity using two identifiers, and prepare patients for examinations by obtaining accurate vital signs and documenting medical history. Notify the provider and registered nurse of any significant changes in vital signs or acute symptoms. Set up necessary equipment and supplies for patient visits, maintain cleanliness in examination rooms, and prioritize tasks to expedite patient flow.
- Assist practitioners with medical and surgical procedures following established protocols, including Electrocardiogram (ECG) administration, venipuncture, immunizations, procedure tray preparation, specimen collection, and CLIA-waived testing as directed by the provider.
- Deliver high-quality care by preparing and stocking examination rooms in accordance with infection control protocols. Participate in safety rounds, maintain vaccine and medication inventory, monitor equipment according to clinic guidelines, assist in ordering supplies, and ensure proper disposal of expired items. Adhere to office opening and closing procedures.
- Act as a vital member of the patient care team, enhancing patient satisfaction through professional and friendly interactions. Accept and perform delegated responsibilities positively, assist colleagues, and effectively communicate with patients and the care team both in the office and over the phone.
- Perform common delegated procedures safely and efficiently within the specialty area.
