As a key member of the healthcare team, the Medical Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting physicians, nurses, and other licensed medical professionals by ensuring smooth patient flow, assisting in various patient care activities, and executing administrative tasks. This role is vital for maintaining an organized clinic environment, ensuring patient satisfaction through professional interactions, and upholding patient confidentiality.
Key Responsibilities:
- Facilitates efficient patient flow by escorting patients to exam rooms, verifying identities with two identifiers, and preparing them for examinations. Accurately records vital signs, documents reasons for visits, and updates allergies, smoking history, and pharmacy details. Alerts healthcare providers to any significant changes in vital signs or acute symptoms. Proactively sets up necessary equipment or supplies for visits and prepares exam rooms for subsequent patients, ensuring timely patient processing.
- Assists healthcare practitioners with medical and surgical procedures according to established protocols, including Electrocardiograms (ECG), venipuncture, immunizations, setting up procedure trays, specimen collection, and CLIA waived testing as directed.
- Ensures high-quality patient care by preparing and stocking exam rooms in compliance with established sanitation protocols. Engages in environmental safety rounds, manages vaccine and medication inventories, monitors and maintains clinic equipment, assists in supply ordering, and properly disposes of expired items. Follows office opening and closing procedures diligently.
- Contributes positively as part of the patient care team, enhancing patient satisfaction through friendly and professional interactions. Accepts and executes delegated responsibilities willingly, assists colleagues, participates in team meetings, and communicates effectively with both patients and the healthcare team.
