About the job
AECOM’s Ports and Maritime team is looking for a Graduate Maritime Engineer with a civil and structural engineering background to join our technical team, working on a variety of projects across the UK and internationally.
You will be part of a highly skilled team that boasts over 200 years of combined experience in delivering exceptional maritime and coastal infrastructure. Our diverse portfolio spans projects for local authorities, private developers, defense clients, and internal AECOM teams both domestically and abroad.
As a Graduate Maritime Engineer, you will gain valuable skills in the design, analysis, and oversight of civil and structural projects in marine and coastal settings. Responsibilities will include working on the development, rehabilitation, and safeguarding of port and harbor structures such as quay walls, jetties, piers, revetments, breakwaters, dolphins, fendering systems, linkspan supports, and scour protection.
Your role will encompass all phases of the project lifecycle—from conceptualization and feasibility studies to detailed design and construction support—ensuring that our solutions are safe, sustainable, and adhere to both UK and international standards.
In this collaborative environment, you will be involved in:
- Structural design and analysis of maritime and coastal structures in accordance with relevant design codes (BS, Eurocodes, PIANC, CIRIA, ICE guidance).
- Utilizing advanced computer software (e.g., ROBOT, GRLWEAP, WALLAP, TEDDS, PLAXIS 3D, among others).
- Creating concept, preliminary, and detailed designs for new constructions and refurbishments, including quay walls, jetties, revetments, breakwaters, dolphins, linkspans, and other related projects.
- Conducting assessments on stability, bearing capacity, and durability of marine structures subjected to wave, current, and corrosion effects.
- Designing and specifying fendering systems, mooring arrangements, and scour protection methods.
- Preparing and reviewing technical reports, design drawings, specifications, and tender documentation.
- Conducting site inspections and structural condition surveys, along with preparing inspection reports.
- Maintaining effective communication with clients, contractors, port authorities, and regulatory bodies.
- Collaborating with geotechnical, hydraulic, environmental, and coastal process engineers across multidisciplinary teams.
- Understanding and ensuring compliance with Health & Safety, Environmental, and CDM Regulations.
- Providing technical support during construction, reviewing contractor submissions, and responding to on-site queries.
- Engaging in knowledge sharing and continuous improvement within the team.
Join us in shaping the future of resilient coastal and port infrastructure.
