About the job
AECOM's Ports and Maritime team is on the lookout for a talented Graduate Maritime Engineer with a strong foundation in civil and structural engineering, eager to engage in a technical role supporting various UK and international projects.
You will be part of a well-established team boasting over 200 years of collective experience in delivering outstanding maritime and coastal infrastructure solutions. Our diverse portfolio encompasses projects for local authorities, private developers, defense clients, and internal AECOM teams, both domestically and internationally.
As a Graduate Maritime Engineer, you will acquire the skills necessary for the design, analysis, and oversight of civil and structural works in marine and coastal settings. Typical projects involve the construction, rehabilitation, and protection of port and harbor structures including quay walls, jetties, piers, revetments, breakwaters, dolphins, fendering systems, linkspan supports, and scour protection.
You will actively participate in all phases of the project lifecycle—from concept and feasibility studies to detailed design and construction support—ensuring that all solutions are safe, sustainable, and adhere to UK and international standards.
Your role will involve:
- Conducting structural design and analysis of maritime and coastal structures in accordance with relevant design codes (BS, Eurocodes, PIANC, CIRIA, ICE guidance).
- Utilizing advanced computer software, including but not limited to ROBOT, GRLWEAP, WALLAP, TEDDS, PLAXIS 3D, among others.
- Developing concept, preliminary, and detailed designs for new build and refurbishment projects.
- Performing stability, bearing capacity, and durability assessments of marine structures against wave, current, and corrosion impacts.
- Designing and specifying fendering systems, mooring arrangements, and scour protection measures.
- Preparing and reviewing technical reports, design drawings, specifications, and tender documents.
- Conducting site inspections and structural condition assessments, compiling comprehensive inspection reports.
- Collaborating effectively with clients, contractors, port authorities, and regulatory agencies.
- Working alongside geotechnical, hydraulic, environmental, and coastal process engineers in multidisciplinary teams.
- Gaining knowledge of compliance with Health & Safety, Environmental, and CDM Regulations.
- Providing technical support during construction phases and addressing site queries.
- Contributing to knowledge sharing and continuous improvement within the team.
Join us and help shape the future of resilient coastal and port infrastructure.
