Join the dedicated team at Middlebury College as a Groundsworker in our Landscape Services department, where you will play a crucial role in maintaining and enhancing the beauty of our campus grounds.
This is a full-time, benefits-eligible position offering an hourly wage between $19.92 and $24.40.
Key Responsibilities:
- Utilize various equipment for seasonal grounds maintenance, including debris and litter removal from campus areas.
- Engage in horticultural tasks such as planting, watering, weeding, pruning, and mulching flower beds, shrubbery, and tree areas.
- Prepare grounds for significant college events like commencement and athletic games, including field markings and equipment setups.
- Manage turf care activities including aeration, overseeding, fertilization, mowing, and raking.
- Assist with snow removal tasks for steps, roads, and walkways as needed.
- Conduct preventative maintenance on tools and equipment to ensure operational efficiency.
- Perform all tasks safely and professionally, adhering to departmental policies, while collaborating effectively with team members and following supervisory direction.
- Assist with general facilities maintenance tasks such as plumbing, electrical work, carpentry, and painting as required.
Qualifications:
- A high school diploma is preferred; vocational training is a plus.
- Knowledge of equipment use, horticulture, turf care, and landscape maintenance is essential.
- A valid driver’s license with a clean driving record is required.
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills; ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
- 1-2 years of experience in lawn and landscape maintenance is preferred.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
This position requires the ability to work weekends as part of a regular or rotating schedule. Flexibility for overtime is necessary. Physical tasks include frequent lifting, pulling, pushing, bending, twisting, climbing, and prolonged sitting in equipment.
