At OpenAI, our Consumer Products team is dedicated to developing innovative hardware that empowers users with advanced AI technology. We focus on designing, engineering, and manufacturing next-generation consumer devices characterized by sleek aesthetics, robust engineering, and state-of-the-art AI integration. Our interdisciplinary team encompasses mechanical, electrical, and systems engineering, collaborating closely with industrial design, operations, and software teams to deliver seamless, high-quality user experiences that enhance the accessibility and utility of AI.
Your Role
As a Hardware Engineer within the Consumer Products team, you will play a pivotal role in the design, development, and integration of sophisticated hardware systems tailored for AI-driven devices. You will engage in cross-disciplinary collaboration to convert initial product ideas into reliable, scalable, and aesthetically pleasing products ready for mass production.
This position is based in Singapore and follows a hybrid work model, with four days a week in the office. We also provide relocation assistance for new hires. Occasional travel to manufacturing partners may be necessary.
Key Responsibilities:
Design, prototype, and validate mechanical and electrical subsystems from early development through to mass production.
Work closely with design, operations, and manufacturing teams to ensure quality, reliability, and scalability in product development.
Lead DFM/DFA reviews, design iterations, and the initiation of prototype and pilot builds.
Troubleshoot complex system-level issues and spearhead root-cause investigations and solutions.
Collaborate with global suppliers and cross-functional teams to ensure seamless execution from concept to product launch.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
A minimum of 6 years of experience in consumer hardware, consumer electronics, or advanced product development.
Strong technical expertise in mechanical, electrical, or systems engineering, with cross-disciplinary experience being advantageous.
Demonstrated experience in taking at least one consumer product from concept to mass production.
Motivated by hands-on problem solving, iteration, and building in dynamic environments.
Appreciate collaboration, craftsmanship, and user experience, and are enthusiastic about shaping interactions with AI.
