About the Opportunity:
The Health Information Management (HIM) Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring a seamless patient and provider experience by efficiently managing patient medical records at Shaw Cancer Center. Responsibilities include retrieving records from other healthcare providers, collecting and scanning documents, coordinating the release of information, and assisting in identifying documentation deficiencies, all while adhering to Federal, State, and Hospital regulations. This position involves regular interaction with healthcare professionals and the public.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with providers and clinical staff to obtain complete medical records for established patients via the electronic health record (EHR) system. Maintain comprehensive documentation of tasks and monitor progress using standard processes.
- Facilitate the use of EHR by accurately processing paper documentation, ensuring timely scanning and indexing of documents. Perform quality assurance checks on scanned documents, addressing any discrepancies with clinical staff, and provide training on scanning protocols.
- Engage with patients, providers, and public stakeholders (including insurers and legal representatives) to fulfill requests for patient information, ensuring compliance with release of information policies and verifying patient identity prior to document release.
