Action Against Hunger-USA is a vital part of the global Action Against Hunger International network, dedicated to humanitarian relief efforts across more than 40 countries. Our mission focuses on improving nutrition, health, water/sanitation, and food security. With an independent status, Action Against Hunger-USA operates in eight countries: Kenya, South Sudan, Zambia, Tanzania, Uganda, Ethiopia, Haiti, and Somalia. Our dedicated team of around 2,000 professionals is spread across various country offices, with our Headquarters in New York City and Operational Centre in Nairobi, as we anticipate further growth.
About Our Work in South Sudan
Since 1985, Action Against Hunger has actively addressed both chronic and acute needs in South Sudan through a comprehensive, multi-sectoral approach. We integrate Nutrition, Food Security & Livelihoods, Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH), Protection, and Gender interventions to enhance resilience and improve community well-being. Our country program employs approximately 100 professionals working in regional and satellite offices to effectively implement a robust portfolio valued at $15 million annually, which includes emergency response, resilience-building, research, and innovation initiatives. Our key donors for 2024/2025 include ECHO, UNICEF, AICS, GFFO, SIDA, EHF, WFP, and other partners committed to supporting our humanitarian and development efforts.
Position Overview
As the Health Technical Specialist (HTS), you will work under the guidance of the Head of Health and Nutrition, taking charge of the strategic design, implementation, and management of Action Against Hunger-USA's Health portfolio in South Sudan. This role focuses on ensuring high-quality primary healthcare, maternal and reproductive health, and nutrition programs in Northern Bahr el Ghazal, Jonglei, and Warrap States, with potential expansions into additional regions. Your leadership will extend to overseeing both ACF and partner-implemented programs, providing technical assistance, strengthening capacities, and fostering continuous learning. Field visits will be frequent, allowing you to uphold the highest standards of service delivery, monitor service quality, ensure adequate training and support for all staff, and manage pharmaceuticals and medical supplies effectively.
