JOB CONTEXT:
Since October 2023, Gaza has faced an unprecedented humanitarian crisis, characterized by mass destruction, widespread displacement, and significant loss of life. By October 2025, more than 67,000 Palestinians had perished, and around 170,000 were injured, with 90% of the population—approximately 2.1 million people—displaced multiple times. The health care system is nearing collapse, humanitarian access is severely restricted, and the population faces acute food insecurity, with nearly half a million individuals at risk of famine. Attacks on essential facilities, such as hospitals and schools, persist, posing grave risks to civilians and obstructing humanitarian efforts. Approximately 25% of the injured require immediate and long-term rehabilitation, including a considerable number of children with life-altering injuries, making Gaza home to the largest group of child amputees in modern history.
HI Palestine is currently functioning under the Emergency Division, with a governance structure tailored to effectively manage the complexity of the ongoing crisis. This arrangement, confirmed through the end of 2026, is designed to ensure operational flexibility and responsiveness while preparing for a potential transition back to the Mashreq Region. Coordination efforts in Palestine are divided between Ramallah and Amman, with dedicated area offices in Ramallah and Gaza.
