About the job
The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) is looking for a dedicated Individual Consultant to enhance food safety systems within the Sesame Value Chain in Gedaref State, Sudan. This initiative is part of a collaborative project with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), funded by the European Union under the project “Developing agro-value chains for the improved resilience of rural communities”.
Despite the high economic potential of the sesame value chain, it continues to encounter significant issues concerning food safety, particularly aflatoxin contamination. Challenges include inadequate technical skills and poor coordination among farmers, processors, exporters, and governmental entities. Tackling these challenges is crucial for improving market access, protecting consumer health, and ensuring the long-term sustainability of the Sesame Value Chain in Gedaref State.
This consultancy aims to deliver expert technical guidance for implementing, monitoring, and coordinating food safety initiatives within the UNIDO–IITA framework. The Consultant will play a vital role in enhancing the capabilities of value chain participants, fostering compliance with food safety protocols, and encouraging the adoption of better agricultural, processing, and handling techniques to mitigate contamination risks. Collaboration with UNIDO and CTO will be essential to translate project strategies into actionable field activities.
This role is pivotal in achieving the project’s objective of creating a more resilient, safer, and better-coordinated Sesame Value Chain in Gedaref State. The Consultant will facilitate meaningful advancements throughout the value chain and contribute significantly to the successful execution of this EU-funded initiative.
We invite qualified and experienced individuals to express their interest in this consultancy opportunity.
