The Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) Manager plays a crucial role in fostering a person-centered care environment. This position is responsible for cultivating a culture of compliance and excellence in infection prevention and control, while ensuring the safety and well-being of residents, their families, and staff.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the IPAC program within the facility and guide the IPAC team.
- Facilitate comprehensive IPAC education for all personnel, caregivers, volunteers, visitors, and residents.
- Conduct timely IPAC audits and analyze findings to identify trends and root causes for continuous improvement.
- Oversee regular infectious disease surveillance and ensure adherence to established policies and procedures.
- Ensure that all staff maintain up-to-date mask fit test results for immediate access.
- Thoroughly review progress notes to identify and document new infections, alongside monitoring existing cases for proper communication as per policy.
- Engage with the Outbreak Team at the onset of any outbreak and maintain participation throughout its duration.
- Ensure adequate and suitable personal protective equipment (PPE) is available across the facility.
- Review daily and monthly screening results, identify trends, and analyze data for actionable insights.
- Implement and maintain a hand hygiene program for residents, staff, and visitors.
- Participate in interdisciplinary and quality team meetings to promote IPAC across all departments.
- Attend regional IPAC meetings and report on the status of the home’s IPAC initiatives.
- Establish and maintain relationships with local public health entities, laboratory representatives, and IPAC leaders within the Long-Term Care Division.
- Contribute to quality initiatives by performing regular audits and developing action plans to ensure compliance with IPAC standards.
- Address ethical considerations related to IPAC through the S&R Ethics Program.
- Plan, direct, develop, coordinate, implement, and evaluate resident care strategies.
- Promote resident satisfaction and ongoing quality improvement efforts.
- Align resident care services with the needs of the community both internally and externally.
- Participate in Care Conferences as necessary and address any concerns from residents and families regarding IPAC.
- Maintain partnerships with hospitals, medical staff, and community health professionals.
