Join the San Francisco International Airport as an Integrated Pest Management Specialist, where you will play a vital role in preserving the health of our environment. Under general supervision, you will conduct inspections of vegetation, aquatic bodies, and structures, identifying pest-related issues and implementing effective solutions.
The primary responsibilities of this position include:
- Conducting thorough surveys and inspections of trees, shrubs, grass, rights of way, and other vegetation, as well as aquatic environments and structures, to identify signs of disease or harmful pests using visual aids and historical data.
- Monitoring pest ecosystems to assess the presence of pest species and their natural predators, and analyzing conditions contributing to pest challenges.
- Contributing expertise to the development of integrated pest management strategies.
- Utilizing traps and both chemical and non-chemical methods for pest management while maintaining detailed records of all activities. This includes mixing, applying, and monitoring various chemicals, fertilizers, and baits to treat specific pest-related conditions.
- Providing training and guidance to staff, contractors, and the public on pest biology, integrated pest management approaches, and pesticide toxicology.
- Implementing pest control measures in alignment with the City’s Integrated Pest Management Program as per the San Francisco Administrative Code (Chapter 39).
- Operating and maintaining specialized equipment, including various types of sprayers and boats for aquatic treatment.
- Managing supply requisitions and maintaining accurate records of chemicals and spray control operations.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
