Internship Position: Computational Chemistry Intern (Leuven, Belgium) Summer 2026
About the Internship
We are excited to offer an internship for students or early-career researchers passionate about computational chemistry, data science, and AI-driven materials discovery. This internship emphasizes establishing structure–property relationships for innovative precursor discovery, setting the groundwork for future AI initiatives in advanced materials research.
Key Learning Objectives:
- Develop and curate a machine-readable chemical library.
- Comprehend key molecular descriptors and their impact on physical and chemical properties.
- Acquire hands-on experience in computational chemistry workflows and data-driven modeling.
- Utilize Python for data analysis and modeling techniques (using Jupyter notebooks).
- Investigate the synergy between computational chemistry tools and data-driven property predictions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Import or create molecular structures and 3D geometries from online databases.
- Gather and organize literature data regarding relevant physical and chemical properties.
- Engage in data pre-processing and feature engineering/extraction.
- Execute descriptor calculations and evaluate correlations with target properties.
- Conduct DFT calculations on selected molecules.
- Develop and enhance predictive models for property estimation.
- Document processes and contribute to the internal knowledge base for AI projects.
